Senior Environmental Consultant / Scientist / Engineer

With offices in the UK, Australia, China, Lao PDR, Rwanda, and Senegal, Earth Systems is a growing environmental and sustainability consultancy that is seeking highly motivated, ambitious professionals who are passionate about their work. 


A great opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to help develop and grow the Earth Systems’ Bristol office and work internationally.


Earth Systems develops and implements innovative and effective environmental, water, energy and sustainability solutions, providing specialist advice and hands-on capabilities in a diverse range of areas related to environmental management.


We are currently seeking to employ environmental professionals with expertise in environmental management, assessment and permitting to join our team. The candidate will have proven experience in winning and successfully delivering international projects with in-country field experience. The role will require collaboration and teamwork with staff within Bristol and other international offices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Generation of business with new and existing clients in the UK and Europe and / or in Earth Systems’ key regions: West Africa, East Africa and Southeast Asia;
  • Project Management and technical inputs to environmental assessments and other specialist environmental and social studies to meet international standards;
  • Ability to represent Earth Systems professionally to a range of stakeholders/organisations/government authorities; and
  • Be a technical leader to other Earth Systems’ employees, locally and globally.


Essential Selection Criteria:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification(s);
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in core areas of the environmental sector (e.g. water, waste, energy, ecology);
  • Extensive experience – a minimum of 5 years’ international experience (ESHIA, environmental and social management plans, ecology, hydrology, environmental engineering, resettlement planning; and environmental permitting /  planning);
  • Knowledge of the World Bank Performance Standards and other development bank guidelines;
  • Have willingness and ability to travel for international assignments;
  • Excellent reporting and proposal writing skills;
  • Proven ability to generate new projects and opportunities;
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities;
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Exceptional written and verbal English language communication skills; and
  • Passionate about the environment sector.


Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • An existing network of international contacts would be highly desirable;
  • Language skills (French in particular would be advantageous);
  • Experience of managing large-scale impact assessment projects; and
  • Experience and understanding of international funding mechanisms.


The position will be based in the Bristol office, with significant opportunities to work overseas. An attractive salary package will be provided depending on experience.
