Job Overview

Earth Systems currently have a number of opportunities for enthusiastic and motivated environmental scientists or environmental engineers to join our Environmental Management Group in the UK. 


This is a great opportunity for early career environmental professionals with a passion for international travel to help develop and grow the Earth Systems’ Bristol office.


As Environmental Scientist / Engineer at Earth Systems, you will work on a range of environmental assessment and management projects for a wide range of public and private sector clients predominantly overseas within Africa and Southeast Asia. You will be responsible for managing and overseeing time-bound consulting assignments typically associated with Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) including baseline studies, impact assessments and the design and development of social and environmental management and monitoring plans.


Responsibilities are expected to include:

  • Assisting with baseline field surveys and investigations;
  • Data analysis and preparation of high quality technical reports;
  • Maintaining technical awareness of developments within environmental science relevant to both the work of Earth Systems and consultants’ technical background;
  • Project management of consulting inputs into multi-disciplinary environmental consulting projects;
  • Preparation of cost estimates and proposals for potential clients;
  • Routine travel for assignments throughout the Africa and Southeast Asia region.


The successful applicant will:

  • Be passionate about the environment and have a relevant background in either Environmental Science, Geoscience, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Water Science or EIA;
  • Have a relevant post-graduate qualification (preferably a MSc, PhD or DPhil);
  • Have some relevant experience, including direct experience working on environmental management and assessment or sustainability (preferably some private sector experience);
  • Be capable and interested in undertaking fieldwork overseas;
  • Have experience travelling and working internationally (preferably within West and East Africa and Southeast Asia);
  • Have the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team; and
  • Have exceptional written and verbal English language communication skills (and preferably fluent in a second language such as French).


The position will be based in the Bristol office, with significant opportunities to work overseas. An attractive salary package will be provided depending on experience.
