Earth Systems Europe regional office is located in Bristol, United Kingdom. Internationally, Earth Systems has a network of offices in Melbourne (head office), Perth, Darwin and Brisbane in Australia; Dakar, Senegal; Shanghai, China; and Vientiane, Lao PDR.

Earth Systems’ staff comprises highly experienced environmental professionals with complementary skills and experience. Our multicultural staff possesses a broad range of environmental skills that enable us to build teams capable of tackling diverse and complex environmental and social projects. Earth Systems draws on the skills and expertise of a network of professionals in our offices around the world. We believe that the success of the company is largely due to the high calibre people that we employ, and are always looking for such people who are interested in joining us.

Our Associates

In addition to our wide range of internal expertise, Earth Systems has developed a network of Associates that we can draw upon, as required. Our Associates are independent specialist consultants that together cover a wide range of specialist disciplines (e.g. surface and groundwater management; hydrological modelling; air quality and noise management; archaeology and physical cultural resources).

Mr Nigel Murphy

Director, Senior Principal Environmental Scientist

Nigel is a Director of Earth Systems. He has more than 25 years’ experience as an environmental and earth scientist. In addition to specialist technical skills in environmental science, Mr Murphy has extensive experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments and project management for private sector, government, aid and development projects. Nigel is a leading practitioner in environmental and social impact assessment having led and participated in numerous projects in Australia, Asia, the Pacific and Africa.

Dr Jeff Taylor

Director, Senior Principal Environmental Geochemist

Dr. Taylor is one of the founding directors of Earth Systems. He has more than 30 years’ experience as an environmental and earth scientist and has managed and directed a broad variety of multi-disciplinary environmental projects, both in Australia and overseas. He is regarded as leading expert on issues related to acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD), and has specialist knowledge in the fields of water quality, environmental geochemistry, minesite remediation and nutrient pollution.

Beth Carter

Senior Environmental and Social Consultant

Beth started as the Office Manager in Melbourne in June 2009 and held the position for two years. She then moved back to the UK in mid-2011 and set up the Europe office, based in Bristol. She holds a Masters degree in Environmental Policy and Management and has worked on a variety of environmental and social management projects. Beth’s main focus is the spatial components of projects, managing data and producing spatial imagery. She works closely with Arc GIS and has experience of other geographical information systems. She is very familiar with the social components of projects, including health impact assessment, human rights impact assessment, baseline surveys, community consultation and engagement. Beth is also responsible for the administration management of the Europe office and is a member of the health and safety committee and marketing strategy team.

Stephen Isaac

Senior Environmental Scientist

Stephen is an IEMA Chartered Environmentalist with over 10 years of environmental consultancy and archaeology experience. His specialisms include Environmental Impact Assessment, Sustainability Appraisal, Strategic Environmental Assessment, and (EU) Habitats Directive Assessment. He is currently or has recently undertaken sustainability and ecology work for major construction or mining projects in the UK, Romania, United Arab Emirates, Liberia, Senegal and India. He has also completed environmental assessments of various flood risk, surface and groundwater management plans and climate change/ green infrastructure projects. Stephen is a former archaeologist and also has 7 years of consultancy experience in preparing the cultural heritage chapters of environmental reports for UK and Middle East projects. His clients have principally been local authorities (LDFs, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies, Surface Water Management Plans, development masterplans, road improvements and Local Transport Plans), but also Welsh Government, the Scottish Government, the Environment Agency, European Investment Bank and private developers.

Vanessa Lea

Senior Environmental Scientist

Vanessa has experience in the environmental and community development sectors in West Africa, Australia, and the Caribbean. She has multi-disciplinary expertise in environmental and social impact assessment, preparation of management and monitoring plans, and development of closure plans, and specialises in the fields of water quality, climatology, waste management and environmental auditing. Vanessa recently completed secondments to the Environment and Community Relations Department of the Mako Gold Project in Senegal and to the Environment Department of an iron ore exploration project in Guinea. Vanessa has also recently contributed to impact assessments and stakeholder engagement for iron and gold mining projects in Guinea, Laos and Australia, including the Tri-K Gold Project, Phonsavan Copper-Gold Project, and Nowa Nowa Iron Ore Project. Vanessa has additional expertise in the technical and social dimensions of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects in aid and development contexts, with long-term field experience managing a UNICEF-funded WASH program in rural Haiti.
